Summary: Culvert Studio is designed to work offline. Your projects, calculations, site surveys, and attached photos are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. The app only connects to the network for anonymous crash diagnostics, app configuration, the Canadian public weather/hydrology data you choose to fetch, and — if you use it — the AI explainer.

Educational demonstration: Culvert Studio is an educational, experimental showcase of our engineering-software capabilities — a demonstration of the tools we can build for professionals in civil engineering, drainage, stormwater, and hydrology. 1. Information We Collect

Project & Calculation Data: Culvert sizing inputs, hydraulic analyses, projects, site surveys, inspections, and results you create are stored locally on your device only.
Preferences: Units, language (English/Français), and app configuration are stored locally on your device.
Photos (optional): If you choose to attach a photo to a project via the image picker, it is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded automatically.
Feedback You Send: If you use the contact form, your message and contact details are sent to us. This only happens when you press send.
Crash Diagnostics: If the app crashes, we receive basic crash logs (device model, OS version, app version, and a technical stack trace) via Firebase Crashlytics to help us fix bugs. No personal information is included.
App Configuration: The app may download configuration settings via Firebase Remote Config. This does not include any of your project or personal data.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

No account is required, and no names or email addresses are collected — unless you voluntarily include them in a feedback message you choose to send
No location data is collected or transmitted (location is only used on-device, and only if you grant it, to pre-fill a site coordinate)
No advertising or advertising identifiers
No cloud sync or uploads of your projects, calculations, or photos
No contacts, calendar, or other device data

3. Data Storage

Projects, calculations, site surveys, and attached photos are stored locally on your device (using on-device databases and your device's file system). There is no cloud sync, so nothing is uploaded to our servers. Environmental data (e.g., IDF rainfall intensities, tidal, snow, hydrometric readings) is fetched on demand from Canadian public agencies (Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Water Survey of Canada, and the Canadian Hydrographic Service) — this is public data you request, not personal data. Feedback messages you send and crash diagnostics are stored on our secure servers (Firebase) only as long as needed to respond to you and fix issues. Uninstalling the app removes all local data.

4. Third-Party Services

Firebase (Google): used for Crashlytics (basic crash diagnostics) and Remote Config (app configuration).
AI Explainer: if you use the "Explain This Result" assistant, the summary of your calculation (inputs and outputs — not your stored projects) is sent to the AI provider to generate the explanation. Only send content you're comfortable sharing.
Canadian public agencies: read-only requests for public weather/hydrology data when you use those features.

No advertising networks, analytics trackers, or other third-party services are used. Your projects and photos are never sent to any third party.

5. Children's Privacy

The app is an educational engineering demonstration and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

6. Your Rights

Your projects, calculations, and photos live on your device, so you can view and delete them at any time within the app. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. If you sent a feedback message and would like it removed, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
